When does it happen?

While many people associate restless leg syndrome with sleeping, it can also come about while you are still awake. When this happens, it usually occurs later in the day, closer to midnight.

RLS patients frequently suffer an unpleasant sensation in their legs while sitting or lying down. Moving their legs temporarily alleviates this discomfort, but it necessitates regular movement.

These movements involve flexing or extending the toes, ankles, knees, and hips at regular intervals.

Patients of any age can develop this condition. While it might appear harmless early on, it can grow and worsen if left untreated. Due to this, you shouldn’t ignore it.

Why does it happen?

There is no definitive cause of restless legs syndrome. The commonly known cause is a dopamine imbalance. This is a brain chemical that is essential for muscular control and movement.

While this is the case, researchers have discovered that most of those who develop the condition before age 40 tend to have inherited it.

Other predisposing factors include iron deficiency, kidney failure due to peripheral neuropathy, and spinal cord disorders.
